Leeds Trinity University was looking to make improvements to the facilities on offer to students at its Horsforth campus through the introduction of a multi-functional social environment complete with console stations, pool table and darts board. Located in a brand new student accommodation block, the recreation space needed to encourage students from across the Campus to meet and interact with one another in a relaxed, informal setting. It would also offer an alternative venue for residents and visitors to socialise outside of the on-site bar.
Covering 5,000 sq ft, the project required an innovative and flexible selection of sofas, stools and tables that would accommodate 60 students and could be arranged for small, informal gatherings or adapt to host larger social events.
The Recreational Space has been designed to allow students to socialise and interact in a fun, informal environment so it was important that the product selection didn’t disrupt line of sight across the main floorplate and promoted the ability for students to communicate effectively between different user zones.
Our Adore stools and poseur-height tables were chosen for the pool table and darts areas to allow players to perch between goes, and the Izzy sofa was utilised in the two console station zones to provide comfort and support for gamers who could be sat for long periods of time.
The robust Gallen sofa provides chunky arms that offer additional seating for students to sit on, and the low lounge chairs from our Adore range featuring a high back and headrest presents a quieter, comfortable place for students to sit and contemplate.
“Gresham worked in partnership with us and our students to create an environment that our residents would love to use. Engagement with user groups ensured that the students felt involved in the project and had a say in the choice of colours and layout of the space. The result is an area that is open 24 hours and provides a comfortable place for students to relax anytime of the day. As such, it is already a very well used facility on campus and continue to receive positive comments from students, staff and visitors alike.”
